Job Purpose
The Load Master plays a mission-critical role within Emirates SkyCargo operations. This position requires planning ahead of each flight to ensure all arrangements are properly coordinated at every involved station—origin, destination, and any en-route stops. The Load Master also travels with the aircraft during charter or scheduled operations, overseeing the entire ground operation to ensure compliance with Emirates and airport standards.
This role demands exceptional attention to detail, deep technical knowledge, and a strong commitment to safety, punctuality, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Flight & Ground Handling Preparation

Plan all ground handling arrangements to ensure smooth operations.

Obtain complete load specifications and airport details prior to the flight.

Ensure the cargo load is built according to Emirates standards and safety regulations.
Supervision of Ground Handling Agents (GHA)

Oversee GHAs to achieve optimal load planning and efficiency.
-
Issue timely loading instructions to ensure operations commence without delay.

Ensure unloading procedures meet safety and efficiency requirements.

Ensure temperature-sensitive, pharmaceutical, and GDP-regulated cargo is handled correctly.
Weight, Balance & Documentation

Prepare the aircraft weight and balance calculations and trim sheet.
-
Submit final documentation to the Pilot in Command.

Issue both loading and unloading instructions to ground operations.

At destination, collect the General Declaration, weather reports, and flight plan.
Operational Efficiency & On-Time Performance

Take responsibility for flight punctuality and on-time departures.

Liaise with crew and hotels when delays occur to avoid duty time complications.

Maintain strong communication with maintenance engineers, airport authorities, and ground handlers.
Safety, Compliance & Special Cargo

Inspect aircraft loading systems and coordinate rectification with Engineering.

Determine operational limitations when systems are unserviceable.
-
Coordinate with grooms and crew regarding special loads and live animals (AVI).
-
Conduct main deck cargo security searches as per the Flight Operations Manual.

Handle Dangerous Goods (DG) inspections and incidents.

Ensure all special cargo has the required documents and permits.
Qualifications & Requirements
To qualify for this position, candidates must have:

5+ years of experience in cargo, airline, or ground handling operations.

12 years of schooling or equivalent.

Completed certifications in:

Load Control 1 & 2
-
Dangerous Goods Acceptance

Aircraft Loading & Handling
-
Special Cargo Handling (including IATA LAR)

Strong knowledge of local and international customs, immigration, and security regulations.

Demonstrated competency in Good Distribution Practice (GDP).

Excellent independent decision-making skills.

Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
-
Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
