Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Storekeeper is to handle, record, and monitor all incoming and outgoing materials required for catering operations. This includes both food and non-food items. The role ensures that all products are stored correctly, stock rotation rules are followed, hygiene standards are maintained, and documentation is completed in line with HACCP and company procedures. By doing so, the Storekeeper supports smooth daily operations and minimizes wastage, shortages, and compliance risks.
Key Responsibilities
1. Receiving and Inspection

Receive all food and non-food deliveries and verify quantities against purchase orders.

Check expiry dates, packaging condition, and overall product quality.

Immediately report discrepancies, shortages, or damaged goods to the Store Manager or Procurement Team.

Ensure delivery notes and invoices are accurately recorded and properly signed.
2. Storage and Organization
-
Store items in designated areas such as dry stores, chilled rooms, and freezers.

Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expiry, First Out) principles to reduce wastage.

Label, date, and stack all items correctly to avoid damage, cross-contamination, or spoilage.
3. Stock Issuance and Control

Issue food items and consumables to kitchens and service areas based on approved requisitions.

Record every stock movement and maintain daily issue and receipt logs.

Monitor par stock levels and inform the Store Manager when reordering is required.
4. Documentation and Reporting
-
Maintain accurate stock cards or ERP system entries for all inventory items.

Prepare daily, weekly, or monthly stock and consumption reports as required.

Support periodic physical stock counts and assist with reconciliation against system records.
5. Food Safety and Hygiene
-
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all storage areas.

Monitor and record cold room and freezer temperatures daily.

Follow pest control procedures, cleaning schedules, and proper waste disposal practices in line with HACCP / ISO 22000 standards.
6. Coordination and Teamwork

Coordinate closely with kitchen, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure smooth material flow.

Assist with loading and unloading deliveries and verify shipment accuracy.

Cooperate with auditors and inspectors during internal and external audits.
Job Requirements and Skills
To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:

Inventory Control Skills: Ability to maintain accurate stock levels using manual or digital systems.

Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of HACCP principles, safe food handling, and temperature control.

Attention to Detail: Strong focus on checking quantities, expiry dates, and product quality.

ERP/System Literacy: Familiarity with ERP or warehouse systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Excel-based tools.

Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple storage areas efficiently without delays.

Physical Fitness: Capable of lifting, moving, and organizing goods in warehouse environments.

Communication Skills: Clear coordination with chefs, suppliers, and logistics teams.

Numeracy and Documentation Skills: Ability to calculate stock usage and maintain accurate records.
